Year-Over-Year Sound Comparison Graphics

2023 Saw the complete upgrade of sound monitoring equipment within the STAR site at both portable and stationary locations. Since moving the portable monitor to its updated location in direct line of sight to sound sources in August 2023, we can now make direct year-over-year comparisons of in-pit sound levels.

It is important to note that the monitoring stations are located inside the perimeter berms, adjacent to operations and not beyond the site boundaries. Measurements are intended to help monitor and measure the internal operations performance and are not representative of the lower offsite levels.

As graphs update throughout the year, all environmental reports and graphics are available on the '+environment' dropdown under 'current year'.

As of August 2024, sound levels within the pit have been reduced by 5+ decibels since the same time last year. These changes are primarily driven based on changes to plant numbers, plant locations and strategic stockpiling of material to increase sound buffers between crushing plants and adjacent communities. Efforts will continue to drive further improvement on sound levels through changes in plant locations, plant elevations, strategic stockpiling of material, and timing of earthworks.
