STAR Pit Activity Update

Despite the recent rains, the City of Calgary's demand for aggregate products continues to grow. To meet this demand, a small road base plant is expected to become operational within early August in the STAR site. It will be located adjacent to one of the existing central crushers and the area has been set up to ensure its first order of business is to create stockpiles between itself and the Western communities.

This plant will consist of only two main components (one Jaw and one screen deck) and is a fraction of the size of a regular plant. In addition, this plant will only be operational within daylight hours as its goal is to eliminate the need for running a full plant throughout the night in its place. Ramps are planned to allow some of its components and heavy mobile equipment to be lower than the surrounding elevation and aid in additional sound deflection.
